First, the terminology

Resume or CV? It depends entirely where you are applying

This trips people up constantly, and getting it wrong makes an application look careless before anyone reads a word of it.

In the United States and Canada, a résumé is a tight one-to-two page document tailored to one specific role. A "CV" there means something else entirely — a long academic record listing publications, grants, and teaching, used for faculty and research posts.

In the UK, Ireland, Europe, the Gulf, and most of the Commonwealth, "CV" is simply the everyday word for that same short, targeted document. Nobody there means an academic record unless they say so.

JobFlick builds either one. What changes is length and which sections lead — the underlying process of turning your experience into evidence is identical.

Conventions that differ

What to leave off a US resume

If you learned to write a CV in the Gulf, India, or much of Europe, some habits actively hurt you in the US market. These are not style preferences — they are things that get resumes discarded.

No photo

Standard on Gulf and some European CVs. On a US resume it raises discrimination-liability concerns, and many recruiters are told to reject resumes with photos outright.

No date of birth, marital status, or nationality

Routine in a Dubai CV, and a red flag on a US application. Work authorization is the only related thing worth stating, and only if it is relevant.

Keep it to one page early-career

Two pages is fine with a decade of relevant experience. Three is almost never read. Gulf CVs run longer; US recruiters do not.

Lead with achievements, not duties

"Responsible for inventory" is a job description. "Cut stock discrepancies 30% across four sites" is a reason to interview you. This is the single biggest lever anywhere in the world.

The real filter

Most resumes are rejected before a person sees them

Large employers run applications through an applicant tracking system first. It is not evaluating your potential — it is parsing text and matching it against the requirements of the posting. Two things reliably sink qualified people at this stage.

Layouts the parser cannot read. The two-column templates marketed as "modern" and "designer" frequently scramble when parsed, interleaving your job titles with your skills list. JobFlick outputs single-column sections with standard headings for exactly this reason.

Missing vocabulary. If a posting says "accounts receivable" nine times and your resume only ever says "billing", you score low despite doing the job. The resume rater shows you those missing words against a specific posting before you apply.

🤖

Nobody can guarantee an ATS pass. Every employer configures theirs differently, and any tool promising a guaranteed pass is selling certainty it does not have. What you can control is parseable structure and matching vocabulary — so that is what JobFlick fixes.

Being straight with you

Our job board is UAE-only. The resume tools are not.

JobFlick's job listings cover the United Arab Emirates, so if you are job hunting in Chicago or Berlin, our board is not where you will find the role. The resume builder, AI coach, and rater work anywhere and produce a document you can take to LinkedIn, Indeed, or any employer portal.

Worth knowing if you are open to relocating: the UAE hires heavily from abroad, salaries are paid free of personal income tax, and employers there routinely recruit internationally. If that is interesting, browse the current openings. If not, take the resume and go win somewhere else — that is a perfectly good outcome.

Questions

Resume builder FAQ

What is the difference between a resume and a CV?

In the US and Canada, a resume is a targeted one-to-two page summary tailored to a specific role, while a CV is a long academic record used mainly for research and faculty positions. In the UK, Europe, the Gulf, and most of the Commonwealth, "CV" means the same short document Americans call a resume. JobFlick builds either — the structure and length change, the process does not.

Should I put a photo on my resume?

Not for US applications. Photos, dates of birth, marital status, and nationality are conventional on Gulf and some European CVs, but on a US resume they invite discrimination concerns and many recruiters are instructed to discard resumes containing them. JobFlick leaves them off by default.

Is the resume builder free?

Building your resume and previewing the finished document is free, so you see exactly what you made before paying anything. Downloading the PDF and using the AI coach without limits are part of JobFlick Plus at AED 29 per month — prices are billed in UAE dirhams, which is roughly eight US dollars.

Will my resume get past an ATS?

JobFlick outputs single-column, text-based sections with standard headings, which is what applicant tracking systems parse reliably. The graphics-heavy two-column templates sold as "modern" are the most common cause of a qualified applicant being scored low.

Does JobFlick list jobs in the United States?

No — JobFlick's job board currently covers the United Arab Emirates. The resume builder, AI coach, and resume rater work anywhere in the world and produce a document you can use for any application, on any job site.
