Calculator

Calculate your gratuity.

This calculator uses the daily basic wage of basic monthly salary × 12 ÷ 365. Some employers divide by 30 instead, which gives a slightly higher figure. Allowances such as housing and transport are not included, because gratuity is based on basic salary.

The rules

How gratuity is calculated in the UAE.

Eligibility: at least one year of continuous service with the same employer. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, this applies whether you resign or your employer ends the contract.

First five years: 21 days of basic salary for each year of service.
After five years: 30 days of basic salary for each additional year.
Part years: counted in proportion to the time worked.
Maximum: the total cannot exceed two years of basic salary.
Unpaid leave: days of unpaid absence are not counted as service.

Your employer should pay end-of-service dues within 14 days of the contract ending, and may deduct amounts you legitimately owe them.

Worked example

Example: AED 6,000 basic salary, seven years of service.

Daily basic wage: 6,000 × 12 ÷ 365 = AED 197.26.
First five years: 21 × 197.26 × 5 = AED 20,712.
Next two years: 30 × 197.26 × 2 = AED 11,836.
Estimated gratuity: about AED 32,548.

Exceptions

Who these rules do not cover.

Free zones with their own employment law use different end-of-service rules: most DIFC employees are covered by the DEWS savings scheme instead of gratuity, and ADGM has its own regulations. Government employees and domestic workers are covered by separate laws. If you are unsure, check with MOHRE or your HR team.
